MCMINNVILLE, TN - Graveside services for SMSGT William Edward Baer, 93, USN/USAF (Ret.) will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2018 in Anniston Memorial Gardens. Rev. Hollis Martin will be officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. SMSGT Baer was born on February 16, 1925 in Piqua, Ohio and died on September 2, 2018 in McMinnville, TN, of old age. SMSGT Baer served his country over 26 years between January 19, 1943 and August 1, 1969. He fought during WWII, in the Navy, for 20 months in the Mediterranean with the Eighth Amphibious Forces, pushing Germans out of Africa, to Sicily, Italy and France. SMSGT then fought nine months in the Pacific against Japan, with the latter five-and-a-half months in occupation of Sasebo, not far from the sites of the atomic bombs. Following nearly five years in the Navy, he served 22 years with the US Air Force with 19 of those years being served consecutively with the Strategic Air Command (SAC). SMSGT Baer retired at Hq SAC on August 1, 1969. SMSGT is survived by his children, Randy (Nancy) Baer of Clearwater, FL, Rocky (Amy) Baer of Wilsonville, Brad (Christine) Baer of Boise, ID, Brenda (Howard) Hill of McMinnville, TN and Tim Baer of McMinnville, TN; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. SMSGT Baer was a life-time Christian and a believer in the Seventh-Day, God’s Holy Sabbath.
